It's all About the Sleeves!

There’s no denying the popularity of a beautiful wedding gown with sleeves.

Since the Royal Wedding of Prince William & Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, in April 2011, the more conservative sleeve trend has been going strong. In this blog post I will cover the sleeve customization options you have when ordering something “Made to Measure” from Jennifer Gifford Designs.

A long lace bishop sleeve with a cuff is not ideal for the very petite, nor is a very fitted sleeve the most comfortable option for the more curvy Bride.

So what are your options?

Read on to find out how I worked with three different Bride’s on the perfect sleeve shape for their dream wedding gown, The Celine Overlay, and why it worked so well for them.

Hayley - Celine with the Olivia Sleeve

Hayley was one of my “Made to Measure” clients who loved the Celine Overlay but felt more herself in the Olivia Overlay sleeve.

So we decided to change the sleeves to the shape of those on the Olivia overlay.

We also added the pearl buttons, from her mother’s wedding dress, down her back along the zip.

Such a special touch and something I LOVE to do!

Honia - Celine with the Eden Sleeve.

My beautiful Rock Chick!

Honia knew what she was looking for and to her credit was very forthcoming. I loved her ideas and I couldn’t wait to see everything come together!

As Honia has a very small frame the bishop sleeve on Celine almost swallowed her up. So we opted for the very elegant long fitted Eden Overlay Sleeve shape instead. I just added three pearl buttons at each wrist to keep the fit all the way down her arm.

We also added a side split which I carefully cut away, while Honia was in the Overlay, at one of her fittings. Honia wore a short Tilly slip in Whisper Pink, and a waltz length veil in the same ivory hail-spot tulle as her gown.

Honia completed her wedding day look with patent silver ankle boots!

Stunning and so damn Cool!

Emily - Celine Bishop Sleeve

Elegant and understated is what comes to mind whenever I think of Emily and Kane’s Wedding Day.

Emily’s vision for her wedding gown slowly became clearer the more time we spent together. As she became more comfortable she began to really embrace her vision.

Ultimately Emily wanted to look like a Royal yet feel like herself, comfortable and relaxed.

We achieved this with a dramatic Cathedral length veil and Emily wore the loveliest ballet flats. She wore an ivory Cressida Underlay and the only changes I made to Emily’s Celine Overlay was to lower the neckline slightly. Everything else just worked perfectly for her shape and height.

Job Done!
